Rekt Mkts: Stocks AND crypto rebound for once
Memory off the lows, BTC moving higher on CLARITY hopes
First, a big thank you to everyone who signed up to be a Founding Member of Rekt Mkts Pro. The 250 seats have now been taken and we'll spend a bit of time to develop the platform before opening it up to monthly subscriptions. Markets feel strong today but I'm still cautious, particularly given the rate move.
NDQ futures are up about 1.4% and many stocks are in the green pre-mkt, notably AI-related stocks which have been on a bit of a bad run over the past few weeks. It's one of those moments where in a bull market you get the feeling of "LOWS ARE IN LET'S BUY BOYS" but the continued move higher in rates is what makes me feel cautious, especially ahead of a period that is seasonally weak while many stocks are sitting here up hundreds of percent. I will reiterate that I am max bullish on AI but "the best way to play it" I think is murkier than some give it credit for. Anecdotally it still feels like to me that good news gets sold into, and bad news creates panic, which means there is a lack of overall conviction in the market and there needs to be some sort of a stability event. I realise I sound bearish, if you know me I am generally what they call a "bulltard", but what I am advocating for here is to be nimble and have powder ready to bid. Separately, it's nice to see a green day for the KOSPI but price action still feels very timid there with it being down 26% on the month still, still feels like sellers of strength there.
Memory continues to be my focus and for the first time in a while I actually have very little risk here having peeled off the remainder of my positions into strength. SK Hynix still the big event for 29th July, it's one where if we sell off meaningfully into it or after it I might re-add, otherwise I think happy to sit and watch and be patient for better entries. INTC reports this week on Thursday and I think that could be an interesting one to look at to position around earnings.
I'm more bullish on crypto than I am on equities in the short term, and BTC seems to be catching a strong bid here with due to the main obstacle on the CLARITY act allegedly being resolved...something called the ethics clause...not gonna pretend like I know wtf that is but markets clearly like it. I have still believed CLARITY passing would be a positive catalyst for crypto, but I think at times it's also felt like the market hasn't cared about it...so this PA is promising I think and should we get a good outcome it paves the way for higher prices. On crypto I think it's important not to be locked into current levels...don't forget how massive the underperformance vs stocks has been this year and in my mind there's no reason why BTC can't snap and settle to the 80s with alts up a large amount. I mentioned Robinhood Chain yday, and there's been some big moves there overnight with $PONS notably up another 100%. Bonk launched a competing launchpad but it's just one of those things where I think Pons is marking itself as the launchpad of preference for RH as it has that native feeling...and also over a 50% market sure currently for launches. I still have a preference for $CASHCAT as the "main coin" there but I think you are going to see lots of opportunities spring up here over the summer and I'm working on a screener/dashboard of which we'll make the results available for Pro members. Good luck
